Suzaku and Euphemia are one of the few "canon" ships from Code Geass, the most celebrated Sunrise production of year 2007-2008. I don't know why so many ships I like are short-lived, and this pairing breaks my heart in particular for resembling Zack and Aerith: why separate these sweet, kind-hearted lovers from one another just because a former friend/ally went crazy for whatever reason? Why can't they have at least a bit of control over their own destiny? Why are the "victims of plot" always such nice people? Don't they deserve happiness more than most folks in their world? ... and the list goes on.
Yet there's one good (?) thing about pairings that are no longer possible. A fandom tends to grow exponentially when a tragic plot is involved, and it's great fun hearing different opinions about your favorite couple from all over the world. Now that the second season of Code Geass is airing with an even harsher plot than before (time of writing: April 2008), I hope more and more people will come to appreciate the peaceful moments that once existed between Suzaku and Euphemia - even if just in the form of flashbacks.
